Our Philosophy

Parkview Middle School has a tradition of being one of Iowa's first comprehensive middle schools. Like many high performing organizations, Parkview administration and staff continue to refine practices that provide for all students to maximize their opportunities to learn and participate. With over 1100 6th and 7th grade students and eight teams in each of the two grade levels we serve, the Ankeny Community School District's value of serving students in small communities for learning is definitely a part of Parkview's structure.

Parkview is a "Turning Points" middle school that signifies that our programs and practices are research-based, positively and significantly impact students' academic achievement, and underscore students' social and emotional development. Parkview maintains professional partnerships with the Illinois Association of Middle Schools (the nations' largest Turning Points consultancy group), the University of Illinois, and the Center for Prevention Research. Taken together, our partnerships enable administration and staff to provide outstanding opportunities for students to learn and grow in a caring environment.

At Parkview Middle School we focus on the following seven attributes:

  1. Rigorous curriculum standards
  2. Teaching methods focused on high levels of achievement for all students
  3. Staff that are highly competent and fully certified in all areas in which they teach
  4. Organized relationships for learning to create a climate of intellectual development and caring community of shared educational purpose
  5. Democratic governance through direct and representational participation by staff who know students best
  6. Safe and healthy school environment to reinforce academic performance and develop caring and ethical citizens
  7. Parent and community involvement in supporting student learning and healthy development
