About Our Students

Parkview Middle School celebrates the outstanding academic and co-curricular successes of our students. With over 1100 students in grades six and seven, our students excel in core academic areas compared to other schools within the Des Moines metropolitan area, the state of Iowa, and nationally. Parkview students benefit from class sizes of 23 students, small three teacher-teams, and a full complement of encore and exploratory offerings.

In core academic areas, of all 1100 Parkview students:

  • 60% maintain their status on honor roll
  • 85.17% are proficient in Reading
  • 85.95% are proficient in Math
  • 86.37% are proficient in Science

In our special education programming, of the nearly 100 students served:

  • 51% are making aggressive growth on their IEP trend lines
  • 47% are making expected growth on their IEP trend lines

In encore areas, of all 1100 students:

  • 100% of 6th grade students enroll in Family and Consumer Sciences, Industrial Technology, Technology Applications, and General Music
  • 100% of 7th grade students enroll in Modern Languages of French and Spanish, Skills for Healthy Living and Art.
  • 100% of enroll in wellness-based physical education
  • 54% enroll in band and/or vocal music

In our after school opportunities, of all 1100 students:

  • 35% enroll in Expeditions
  • 32% enroll in Leadership Development Training
  • 15% participate in school plays, yearbook development, and various other clubs and organizations

In the fullness of our student body:

  • 9.5% qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • 10% are served in special education programs
  • 10% are served in gifted and talented programs
  • 6.5% are served in at-risk programming

Parkview student populations are growing by about 25 students per grade level per year.
